Town Talk with Dennis Ready: Dennis Williams Interview »

I have, here in my briefcase, the Town Talk tape I got from Dennis Ready for next week. Usually, we are one week behind (what he gives me on Saturday, I deliver to the Local Access station to show next Monday .. not the current one).

This new show has a half hour intervew with former Dracut Selectman Dennis Williams, discussing his recent success in winning his case against a local woman who had falsely accused him, as well as a discussion of the risks and rewards involved in running for office.

The fact is, the engineer was out last week, and it looks like she is out this week as well. I plan on stopping in during one of the meetings this week to find whomever is doing the filming to try to get this tape into the mix for next Monday.

But for now, I have edited out about 8 minutes of the half hour interview for your enjoyment. (Just click play below.. flash video player required on your machine).

Catch the full show next Monday. If things change, watch the comments on this thread for more info.

Campbell Still riled about Financial Subcommittee Snub »

At the last meeting of the School Committee (Sept 11th), after discussing the poor dropout rate and other issues regarding at-rist students the committee asked the Superintendent to report back to them on what the committee could provide to help support these students.

As I discussed with Superintendent Elaine Espindle, she had asked Principal Rogers of the Junior High school and Principal Power of the High School to prepare recommendations to the School Committee to help at-risk students have every opportunity to succeed.

Espindle received reports from the Principals that recommended a number of tutors and part time professionals to work with these kids. Some grant money was available to use at the Junior High, so the amount needed there was minimal (only about $2000.00), while a greater amount was needed for the High School (about $32000.00). The request was to use money from the School Choice account for this.

(Update: The Sun covers part of this story as well here. )

Example of Kids at Skate Park »

D-Rod (Dan) gave me permission to put this video up as an example of the kids having fun and using the park the way it was intended.

In an email discussion, he said

im from dracut mass and i go to dracut highschool right now the park is nice but i wish it had a few more things and more room but all in all its a cozy park

All in all, this is what we wanted (alright, I would like the credits cleaned up a little bit, but I am realistic here).

Lets hope we can see more examples of these kids.

NIck Totton accepts Gift of Lightwriter from Rotary »

“Try wiping that smile off his face,” said Dracut Rotary Club member Joe DiRocco, pointing to 15-year-old Nick Totton who was typing away on his new LightWRITER. — Dennis Shaughnessey, Lowell Sun

I recently got access to this video clip from the Dracut Rotary Club event where Nick was presented with his own LightWriter.

It sort of makes you proud to be from Dracut when you see this.
