In a story in this morning’s Lowell Sun, Gov Patrick is saying that the people should hold the Tea Party congress members accountable at the next election for the federal partial shutdown.
Ok, I find that arguable, as I have seen no attempt at all by the President or Democrats to even attempt any form of negotiation.
But the quote for the Governor is insulting to the people of the country:
“ I think tea- party Republicans are playing a big game with little people and I hope God forgives them for that, but I hope voters won’t,” Patrick told reporters after celebrating Hispanic Heritage Month.
There are so many things wrong in this statement.
Who are these “little people?” The voters and citizens? The people he is supposed to “represent?”
He comes across as an arrogant elitist, implying the government is there to take care of the “little people.”
As to his next statement, where is that “love thy neighbor as yourself” thing? If he wants to use God in his opinion, he should know that encouraging people not to forgive goes directly against the Christian faith.
I look to hold people accountable for their statements (including this one) and their actions. Its not about “forgiveness.”
Both sides at the federal government need to negotiate and give in. I’ve seen the Republicans make 4 or 5 offers already, and just keep getting negative responses.
So, who is that “Party of NO” now?
