Historic Resource Survey Presentations

NEWS RELEASE

The Dracut Historical Commission announced its hosting of a PUBLIC PRESENTATION of the town-wide historic resource survey and Preservation Plan for Dracut on:

Thursday, November 29, 2012

7:00 PM

Harmony Hall

1660 Lakeview Avenue

The presentation will be a slide show highlighting Dracut’s historic resources that have been documented over the past year and a half and which will provide the basis for future historic preservation efforts by the Historical Commission.  In addition, aspects of the Preservation Plan will be discussed by Jill Fisher, AICP, the preservation planner with Larson Fisher Associates, Inc., who led the project team.

“The extent of our community’s physical heritage has come as something of a revelation to many residents.  We anticipate bringing this information into the forefront with regards to ongoing development in the town so that we preserve our important historic buildings and improve the quality of life for our residents,” said Commission Chair Dave Paquin.

Helen Dunlap, Chair of the Community Preservation Committee, which funded the project, noted that, “it has been a long-term goal of the CPC to undertake this historic survey and to get a preservation plan in place for our community.  It will serve to guide the CPC’s funding activities and ensure we preserve those aspects of our community that residents have strongly supported for many years—especially the historic rural character of Dracut.”

A follow-up session to train people to undertake further research into their historic homes or other properties will be held on:

Friday, November 30, 2012

10 AM – Noon

Parker Memorial Library

Meeting Room

Richard P. Howe Jr. of the Middlesex North Registry of Deeds will be on hand to guide online deed research by those who bring their Wi-Fi enabled laptops to the session.  Fisher will also provide hints and information about discovering the history of a property from online and other resources.
