On Saturday last, Dracut School Committee Member Matt Sheehan joined us on 980 WCAP to discuss the recent teacher’s contract that the board approved at their last meeting.
Sheehan was the sole member to vote against the contract.
In this interview, he explains the savings caused by the withholding of the one year of “step and grade” increases. Looking at the matrix of pay rates, I’m not sure how the teacher’s come back next year without picking up the increase from this year, maybe we can get the new Business Manager to explain it sometime.
He also took the opportunity to respond to Selectman Zimini regarding his questioning the Town Manager regarding removal of topsoil and fill from the site of the school renovation project. Sheehan replied that the removal of the soil was up to the contractor, as stipulated in his contract. Not an issue, and he was surprised that it was brought up. Nobody Sheehan had spoken to had heard of any inquiries on the issue.
