May Election Candidates Night: April 30th

From the Candidate’s Night Committee:

The Dracut Candidates’ Night Committee has scheduled an event on Monday, 30th April, at 7PM at Harmony Hall. This night will give all voters a chance to learn more about their School Committee candidates so they can make an informed vote during the election.

The candidates will have time for opening and closing remarks. The rest of the evening will consist of a question/answer period similar to “Jeopardy” and then questions collected from the audience or previously submitted to the committee.

If anyone would like to submit a question, please forward it to Karen Merrill. Any questions must pertain to all candidates.

The public is welcome to attend the event and it will be broadcast on Dracut Access Television. Replays will also be available at http://www.dracuttv.org/ in the “Video On Demand” section.

All candidates are encouraged to RSVP as soon as possible, as planning is underway on this project.

I’m not sure what the Jeopardy format will entail..  “Student Enrollment for $300, Ann”,  “Planned Library Events for $100″, “Political Intrigue at Housing for $370,000″  … could be fun.

The Candidates night program has a long history of being a respected event in the town electoral process, and we are all looking forward to this year’s event.

    Hi Shawn,

I received confirmation from Dracut Access TV that the event will be televised live on channel 99. It will then be replayed on channels 8 and 99 throughout the week.

As of today’s posting John Kelly is the only candidate who has responded that he will be participating in the event. We do hope that Mr. O’Connell and Mr. Wilkie will RSVP that they plan to attend so that voters will be able to learn everything they need to know about our School Committee candidates so they can make an informed decision at the polls.

Update — we have heard from Joe Wilkie and he will be attending as well.

Also, we are hoping to offer the Housing and Water District candidates 5 minutes each to present their information to the voters. The committee meets this week and will draft letters to those running.

Karen, please give these other races more exposure than just a five minute commercial. These are important postions for the Town and those running deserve the same format as the school committee or any other contested race.
