Hiring an Interim Superintendent .. Espindle?
By Shawn on Nov 24, 2009 in Schools
Last night, School Committee member Mike Miles made a motion to have members discuss the interim position with former Superintendent Elaine Espindle.
This was not to offer her the position, but to discuss whether she would be interested.
Member Bonnie Elie made a point that Espindle would be a great solution to filling the position, being local, available, knowledgable about our system and an expert in school budgets.
Dr McNamara presented, and ultimately succeeded in promoting an alternate approach whereby the committee would advertise the position in the local media to be sure anyone who wanted to could show their interest in the 4 month position. This decision was accepted unanimously.
“We have to be careful we’re not looking to do specific recruiting at this point,” he said.
Espindle, of course, will be the leading candidate of some of these members for this interim position. The questions would be her interest, as well as the interest of the remaining members.
Such a choice has some political implications under the surface in itself. It would be a vindication of sorts for Espindle, as well as a final nail in the coffin for a number of past politicians.
