Historic Veterans presentation Monday Evening
By admin on Nov 4, 2009 in Dracut
On Monday, November 9th at the monthly meeting of the Dracut Historical Society, Rebecca Duda be presenting a lecture on African Americans in Dracut.
With Veterans’ Day just two days later, it seems appropriate that the presentation focus on the African Americans from Dracut who served in the American Revolution.
Dracut sent the highest percentage of its population to fight in the Revolution than any other town in the colonies and quite a few of those men were African Ameicans. The most famous of whom was Barzillai Lew but there were several others as well.
The presentation starts at 7:00 p.m. at the Historic Society.
Rebecca will also join us on 980 WCAP’s Saturday Morning live this week to discuss this and her ongoing efforts to encourage support for restoration and maintenance of the Old Burial Ground: Claypit Cemetary.

After reading about Claypit the past few weeks I checked it out this past Sunday and I later went to the Dracut Historical Society. I was blown away by what they have there. They mentioned this Monday’s talk and I can’t wait for it. I did not know that Dracut sent the most men to the Rev. War percentage wise, that’s amazing.
