Quiet School Committee Mtg
By Shawn on Aug 25, 2009 in Dracut
With all the fun going on in the othe room, I decided to stick with the basics and attend the school committee meeting.
All in all, a quiet one. As the startup meeting for the school year, we heard presentations from the School Doctor and Steve Stone on preparing for medical events and how the schools support the health and safety of the children and Linda Trouville reported on the accreditation of the kindergarden program.
There was acceptance of the high school student handbook (with discussions on cell phone use, dress code, and internet use) and a school improvement plan.
One group made a presentation regarding a special ed program (Merrimack Special Ed) they have been hired to run this year.
All in all, a quiet meeting.
It closed with Matt Sheehan, the chair, distributing the Superintendents evaluation forms to the board. He asked that they be returned within a week so that they could meet with the Superintendent quickly, and then present the results at the next meeting of the school committee.
Over in the next building, I understand that the finance committee was meeting regarding the Louisburg Square project.
Others tell me that they decided to form a subcommittee to gather facts. A lot of talk, from a board who seems stacked against the project. As we said last weekend on the air, I think the project is already dead.. they’re all just trying to make it look bad for the other side right now.

It would be nice if the minutes of all these committees were available on the town of dracut website…..it appears only the appeals board and conservation committee does a good job with that.

The School Com. does a good job posting their minutes – they’re on the school website.
