Sun Column reviews the Political Fun of the last few weeks..

From the Lowell Sun Political Column:
DRACUT WAS a political pressure cooker last week and someone’s lid was sure to blow.
Well, several lids blew, beginning with School Committee member Mike Miles. Miles, speaking on a Saturday morning radio show, said his colleague on the board, Nancy Gagnon, “does a very poor job.” He also said, “She’s not a friend of mine.”
The remarks were a result of Gagnon’s no-show at a Feb. 12 joint meeting between the selectmen and School Committee to replace Mary Gail Martin, who has moved to Tyngsboro with her husband, Brian Martin, one of Dracut’s representatives on the Greater Lowell Technical High School Committee.
Selectman John Zimini also did not attend. Miles referred to his absence as “sour grapes” and called the move “childish.”
Zimini and Gagnon did not attend a meeting last Monday to name a replacement for Brian Martin on the Greater Lowell Board. Dennis “D.J.” Deeb, Dracut’s other representative on that board, showed up but announced he wouldn’t vote.
Deeb called the process “tainted” and “rushed,” and you could see pressure rising on the faces of Selectmen Robert Cox and James O’Loughlin.
O’Loughlin lashed out at Deeb, calling his remarks disingenuous, and telling Deeb, “You’re not doing your job.” He also blasted the absent Zimini, saying, “Not only has he picked up his ball and gone home, but before he did, he threw it through a plate-glass window.”
The replacements to the two boards, Michael McNamara on the School Committee and Victor Olson on the Greater Lowell board, will serve until the May 4 election.
“We’ll probably be discussing this longer that these people will serve,” O’Loughlin said.
Both men have said they will run for the respective unexpired terms
