School Committee allows Mullin to recommend new Business Mgr

Reversing the change that an earlier committee had made that took the responsibility of selecting a candidate from the Superintendent, the school committee last night voted unanimously to give the new Superintendent the role of choosing who he would recommend for the position.

The Lowell Sun reports:

The School Committee unanimously voted last night to relinquish control of advertising and interviewing prospective candidates for the job. It will, however, retain the authority to hire the business administrator, based on Mullin’s recommendation.

It was a fairly quick discussion, where Chairman Ron Mercier explained the earlier decision, and now agreed with giving that decision back to the Superintendent.

The Lowell Sun article on this topic also gives an interesting tally of a great number of the previous Business Managers who have worked for the district.

After last night’s meeting, I think it will be tough to replace Wiggin. He presented a number of impressive cost savings initiatives, as well as some new ideas for revenue.. some of which we will probably try to implement over the next few months.
