Senator Kerry makes insult to “every soldier serving in combat”

Thank you, Senator Kerry, for reminding us just before an election what Democrats think about those who put their life on the line for us. Maybe he considers the only true form of public service being staying at the Ritz, meeting with ambassadors, caviar and campaign fundraising.
From a CNN Article, we are told:
Kerry, the 2004 Democratic presidential candidate, spoke to students at Pasadena City College in California on Monday.
According to the San Gabriel Valley Tribune, the senator took the stage to roaring applause before regaling the crowd with one-liners, Bush barbs and tales of surfing at nearby Mission Beach.
He then said: “You know, education — if you make the most of it, you study hard and you do your homework and you make an effort to be smart, you can do well.
“If you don’t, you get stuck in Iraq.”
So, a Democratic Senator has taken the low brow path of making “barbs” and “one-liners” attacking the President of our country, and then.. stupidly.. letting slip a joke that indicates that if you “don’t study hard and do your homework” you will end up in the military.
Update: Check out some soldiers response at hubPolitics.comÂÂ
Just about everyone in the country heard this as.. “our military is made up of unintelligent refuse.”
Senator McCain, a possible future Presidential Candidate reacted immediately, expressing the feelings of most:
“Senator Kerry owes an apology to the many thousands of Americans serving in Iraq, who answered their country’s call because they are patriots and not because of any deficiencies in their education,” McCain said in a statement.
U.S. troops “deserve our respect and deepest gratitude for their service,” he added and said the notion that only those with poor educations serve in the Iraq “is an insult to every soldier serving in combat.”
“Without them, we wouldn’t live in a country where people securely possess all their God-given rights, including the right to express insensitive, ill-considered and uninformed remarks,” McCain said.
Kerry tried to respond all day today, trying to make the insult to our troops a “bad joke” meant to criticize President Bush (something you have to wonder why a US Senator would be doing).. and then went into a table slamming, angry retort.
Trying to change the topic from his own disturbing opinion, he tries to get the press to focus on the history of the Iraq war again.
Well, if this doesn’t prove to the Democrats that this guy is not their man for the next Presidential Election.. at least all of America has this clip to play over and over during such an election (along with the “I actually did vote for the $87 billion before I voted against it.†quote).
The guys over at Hub Politics list Kerry’s printed response, as well as addresses and phone numbers you can call to protest his statements.
See the video clip below that includes both Senator Kerry’s quote, as well as President Bush’s reaction demanding an apology to the troops in the field.
